VANCOUVER (CITY) V. ABDIANNIA, (UNREPORTED) AUGUST 11, 2014 VANCOUVER REGISTRY FILE NUMBERS 31430 AND 31458 (B.C.P.C.)

Decision of Judge Yee 11 Aug 14

In a 22 day trial with multiple police and bylaw officers testifying on behalf of the City of Vancouver, an expert flown in from Toronto, a local health expert and an expert in multiculturalism and religion, DLG represented two hookah lounge owners in Court after the City sought to shut them down for allowing their customers to smoke herbal shisha in their traditional tea houses. This was a lengthy battle with no stone unturned and is most likely one of the most lengthy and in-depth challenges of a municipal bylaw in BC in the last decade.
